His words have an incredible strength that pin you down for a tickle. My friend S came over last weekend and handed me this book, and while she placed it on my hands she said “Now you're a fan” It was all in humor until I started reading the damn thing and boy was she right! When You Are Engulfed in Flames It appears that I missed meeting David Sedaris last week when I was in New York. Most of these stories center around his life with his boyfriend, Hugh, but some don't. Most recently When You Are Engulfed In Flames, and honestly I felt like I was forcing myself to get through it just because I got it at the used bookstore and wanted to make it worth my measly $4 or whatever. I'm much more inclined to pick up a sprawling epic than a book of short stories yet for some reason I have bought several over the years, one of them being When You Are Engulfed in Flames. One of the things that I enjoy most about your work is that the stories you write often deal with the hilarious outcomes of miscommunication. Last week, Barnes & Noble did a funny thing and classified David Sedaris's new book of essays, When You Are Engulfed in Flames, under fiction in the weekly best-seller list they send out to publishers. As the only literate Reject, it's my duty to find the latest, the greatest and the untouched classics that would make great source material for. David Sedaris is fast becoming one of my favorite authors. When You Are Engulfed in Flames by David Sedaris is his latest book of short stories. I recently finished David Sedaris' “When You Are Engulfed in Flames,” and while I have enjoyed some of his work in the past, this one left me feeling a little bit more needy for some great punchlines or sarcastic wit.
